Grain CSA

A unique opportunity for the serious localvore and lover of fine foods.

Our grains are primarily direct marketed through our grain CSA.  Shareholders purchase a share in the season's harvest and receive monthly allotments of fresh stone-ground flours, cracked and whole grains.  Our grain share usually begins in October, after the grain harvest, and runs for 10 months.  We take January and September off.

We are currently full for the 2011/2012 grain share season.  Please contact us to be placed on a waiting list for October 2012.

What does a share include?

A full grain share includes 10 to 12 pounds of grain per month for 10 months out of the year.  Grains we grow for the share include barley, rye, oats, wheat, buckwheat, corn, flax, fava beans and other dry beans.  Most of the share is distributed as stone-ground flour, but we also offer some whole and cracked grains.  Shares vary from month to month, but a typical share might look like this:

  • 2# whole wheat flour
  • 2# whole rye flour
  • 1# whole barley
  • 1# corn meal
  • 2# cracked oats
  • 2# buckwheat flour
  • 2# dried fava beans

We share recipes via our website and always offer something to taste at our grain share pick-ups.

What does it cost?

A FULL SHARE costs $450 with a $150 deposit required.

We now also offer a HALF SHARE option which includes 5 to 6 pounds of grain per month, for 10 months of the year.  Half shares costs $275 for the season.  We ask for a $100 deposit on the half share.

How does it work?

We distribute the grain shares on the first Thursday of the month at Redwood Roots Farm in Bayside, CA from noon to 6pm.   Other arrangements can be made with advance notice, including pick-up at our farm in Carlotta.  All grains not picked up will be donated to Food for People.
